"One Child One Solarlight"

is a project of SOLUX e.V., a non profit association located at Taufkirchen / Munich in Germany.

The idea

The project intends to provide portable solar lamps for school children and their families in rural areas that do not have access to the electrical grid. Having access to sufficient light opens up new freedom for learning, working and communicating and is therefore an appropriate instrument for combating poverty.

Why this?

•   Education of children improves with more opportunities to read and study
•   Awareness of the use of new environmentally friendly technologies increases
•   The use of kerosene and output of CO2 decreases
•   The health of children is less stressed and the risk of accidents is diminished

Lighting Africa 2008

The project "One Child One Solarlight" will make a contribution to the goal of the "Lighting Africa Development Marketplace (LADM)" to reach 250 million energy poor customers by 2030 with low cost, reliable lighting products. During the World Bank Conference "Lighting Africa 2008" in May, 2008 in Accra/Ghana the project "One Child One Solarlight" was chosen together with 15 other finalists for a World Bank award. The project will start in Ghana in August 2008.

SOLUX e.V. plans to extend the project "One Child One Solarlight" to other countries in future.
